A third suspect — the apparent mastermind — has been charged in the attack of on-duty mail carrier Octavia Redmond who was gunned down in July 2024 as she delivered letters in a Far South Side neighborhood, Chicago police said.
Lyndell DeYoung, 35, was charged with murder, according to police. DeYoung, of the 7900 block of South Mozart Street, is due in court Wednesday on the allegations.
Redmond had just delivered mail to a home in the 12100 block of South Harvard Avenue when she was gunned down July 19, 2024.
During his Monday arrest, DeYoung offered detectives a statement “outlining in full detail the motive and execution of the murder,” according to a police report obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times.
In 2024, a 15-year-old was cited in a juvenile petition with murder and was the alleged triggerman, and Yanheim C. Edwards — who allegedly drove the getaway car and then burned it, was charged with arson, according to the report.
