A motorcycle rider was killed in a crash Wednesday on the 405 Freeway in Sherman Oaks.
The crash was reported about 11:15 a.m. Wednesday on the southbound freeway just north of the 101 Freeway near Burbank Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP sent units to the scene, and the Los Angeles Fire Department also responded but was unable to save the man and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two lanes were reopened about 12:10 p.m., but by then southbound traffic was already backed up to Nordhoff Street.
