ATF, Chicago police shoot two suspects in Country Club Hills

Chicago police and federal agents were involved in a shooting that left two suspects critically wounded Tuesday evening in southwest suburban Country Club Hills, according to officials.

In a Chicago police Department notification, provided to the Sun-Times, the department said two suspects were shot around 7:30 p.m. by a CPD officer detailed to a gang investigations unit operating in the 18800 block of Loretto Lane in the suburb. Both were in critical condition and taken to area hospitals; the officer was taken to a hospital for observation as well.

The Chicago Police Department deferred questions to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, who confirmed that federal agents were involved in the shooting.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability, which investigates shootings involving Chicago police officers, released the statement confirming an investigation. The agency did not immediately have a comment. Country Club Hills police and fire departments also did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The FBI and Illinois state police were also assisting with the investigating, the ATF said.

Officers from the FBI and ATF were on the scene, according to a Chicago Sun-Times photographer at the location.

Shortly after 8 p.m., the photographer saw the FBI hand over a woman in handcuffs to Country Club Hills police. The circumstance of the arrest was unclear.
