Beach hazards statement for Los Angeles County beaches until 3 a.m. Friday

Malibu, Los Angeles County Beaches and Ventura County Beaches are included in a beach hazards statement issued by the National Weather Service on Monday at 12:31 p.m. The statement is in effect until Friday Oct. 23, at 3 a.m.

“Dangerous rip currents and breaking waves due to elevated surf of 3 to 6 feet expected,” according to the NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA. “Minor beach erosion and tidal overflows may occur across south-facing beaches especially along the Malibu Coast and in the Long Beach area.”

“There is an increased risk of ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Waves can wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats nearshore,” the NWS said. “Remain out of the water due to hazardous swimming conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly in such conditions, stay off the rocks.”
