Beach hazards statement in place for Los Angeles County beaches until Monday evening

Malibu, Los Angeles County Beaches and Ventura County Beaches are included in a beach hazards statement released by the National Weather Service on Sunday at 10:29 a.m. The statement is valid from noon until Monday Nov. 2, at 6 p.m.

“Dangerous rip currents and breaking waves due to elevated surf expected. Minor tidal overflow during high tides,” according to the NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA. “Additional flood impacts are likely into next weekend with tides reaching 7 feet as early as Friday. Tides will peak over the weekend into early next week 7.0-7.8 ft. Elevated surf may increase flood impacts during this time, especially across west to northwest facing beaches. Reminder, tides mentioned have been corrected to reflect the most recent trends in actual tide observations.”

“There is an increased risk of ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Waves can wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats nearshore. Minor flood impacts are possible during high tides with water flowing over normally dry sand and to lower parking lots or paths. Moderate beach erosion is possible,” the NWS said. “Remain out of the water due to hazardous swimming conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly in such conditions, stay off the rocks.”
