NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has indicated a preference for keeping a team in Illinois as well as for the league’s expansion to Europe.
All can be accomplished by letting George McCaskey pack his cleats and pads and move to one of his favorite spots around Wolf Lake, Lost Marsh Golf Course or some other desirable landfill in Indiana.
At the same time, the Saudi financiers of the failing LIV Golf enterprise should be invited to sink a billion or so of their own coin into a dome and a few amenities for Soldier Field. In return, they get an expansion team. The new “pride and joy of Illinois” rises on the city’s beautiful lakefront. Mayor Brandon Johnson might even jump in and take some credit. TV networks will drool over buying broadcast rights to the first game featuring the Indiana Bears as visitors.
At the same time, Bears President Kevin Warren can be packed off to London, Berlin or some other far-flung locale to begin work on a new NFL football palace overseas. Expansion team No. 2 will play there. Costs, of course, will be borne by the European local taxpayers found to be at least as gullible as those of Northern Indiana.
Everyone wins, and the NFL’s future is bright.

Growling over the Bears
Tell Roger Goodell to shut up and stay out of the Bears stadium business. And tell Illinois legislators, again, that taxpayers refuse to foot any of the bill for where a sports team worth $8.9 billion wants to play its overpriced games. There is no net benefit to the public, and we won’t be taken again.

A lake take
Donald Trump is not right about everything. In light of his countless extraordinary accomplishments and his indisputable personal magnificence, his renaming of Lake Ontario to “Lake America” is far too modest. Wouldn’t it be so much more appropriate to rename it “Lake Trump?”
But, on second thought, he probably believes that Lake Superior has been named after him already.

He should have renamed Lake Superior.
Are the other lakes “inferior?” This is politically incorrect!
Henceforth, Lake Superior: should be known as “Lake Equal.”
