Bears QB Caleb Williams fined again for wearing cleats

Bears quarterback Caleb Williams will continue wearing Caddix cleats, and the NFL will keep fining him.

One week after he was first fined $11,941 for wearing the cleats against the Falcons — specifically, for showing a logo that wasn’t Nike, Adidas or Under Armour on game day — Williams was fined for donning them against the Patriots, a source confirmed. ESPN reported Williams was fined twice as much as he was for initial transgression: $23,882.

Williams had expected to be fined. He said Wednesday he’d continue wearing the cleats, which claim to reduce stress on players’ joints.

“I’m focused on being able to be out here for the guys,” Williams said. “And if that can give me a small percentage up [as a fine] and it works, then that’s what I’m gonna do.”

Williams was not fined earlier in the season when he wore all-white Caddix cleats without a prominent logo. About 40 NFL players have worn them in a game. Caddix co-founder Jack Rasmussen told the Sun-Times this week he’d be “happy to cover his fines.”
