Breaking down the Bears’ Thursday at Halas Hall:
Rome limited
Wide receiver Rome Odunze, who hurt his calf a week ago, was limited in practice. He was limited in the Bears’ estimated practice report Wednesday, too.
If he can’t play Sunday against the Panthers, Bears offensive coordinator Press Taylor said the Bears would be prepared. Friday will be a big day for his participation.
Left guard Joe Thuney and defensive tackle Grady Jarrett each received a veteran day off on a day where the Bears focused on special teams. The two captains are expected to practice Friday. Safety Xavier Woods (groin) was limited.
Bagent still out
Backup quarterback Tyson Bagent remained out with a back injury. He practiced Monday and Tuesday before going on the projected injury report Wednesday. If he can’t dress for Sunday’s game, 38-year-old Case Keenum would serve as the team’s second-string quarterback. Keenum hasn’t thrown a pass in an NFL game since 2023.
Tackle talk
Braxton Jones won the left tackle job with the way he played during the joint practice against the Titans, offensive line coach Dan Roushar said. He was more consistent, stayed more square and used his hands well. He was also feeling better after hurting his knee last month.
Ozzy Trapilo, who was limited as he recovers from patellar tendon surgery, will challenge Jones when healthy. He’s been doing individual drills and will start running plays with the team soon, Roushar said.
“I’ve been really encouraged with what he’s done so far,” he said.
