Bears Training Camp Report No. 6: Caleb Williams throws incomplete at goal line

Breaking down the Bears’ Tuesday training camp practice:

What happened

The Bears’ pass game struggled to find its rhythm and blew a chance to end practice on a good note. In an 11-on-11 drill without tackling, they took over at their own 47, down five, with 54 seconds left. The Bears committed two false starts but drove to the 22 with about three seconds to play.

Williams threw up the seam to Luther Burden, who was hammered by linebacker Devin Bush. The ball fell incomplete at the goal line. Burden walked off slowly.

“I was going for the ball,” Bush said. “There was nothing malicious.”

Burden was disappointed.

“I expect to watch every ball,” he said.

Fight!

The first fight of camp belonged to two rookies. Defensive lineman Jordan van den Berg, the Bears’ sixth-round pick, tackled offensive lineman Caden Barnett to the ground after the two jawed at each other following a play during team drills. Defensive end Montez Sweat celebrated the form tackle.

Who’s watching

Former Bears coach Dave Wannstedt and former Saints tackle Terron Armstead, who played for Bears offensive line line coach Dan Roushar in New Orleans, chatted with general manager Ryan Poles. Fox host Curt Menefee watched practice, too.

Injury report

Cornerback Terell Smith missed practice after leaving injured Monday.

What’s next

The Bears practice Wednesday 8:30 a.m. They will not wear pads.
