Birmingham Airport security incident: Flights suspended after alert at major transport hub

BIRMINGHAM Airport has closed to aircraft amid a “security incident” involving an Aer Lingus plane.

The flight was heading to Belfast but returned to Birmingham earlier today.

It is yet unclear what exactly sparked the lockdown.

Passengers are encouraged to still turn up to the airport if they have a flight.

A Birmingham Airport spokesperson said: “Birmingham Airport has temporarily suspended operations due to a security incident on an aircraft.

“The aircraft landed safely and all passengers and crew have disembarked.

“All customers due to travel should make their way to the airport and check in as normal.”

West Midlands Police and British Transport Police have been approached for comment.
