Normal service has resumed on the Red and Purple lines after a 17-year-old boy was fatally hit by a CTA train Tuesday morning in the Rogers Park neighborhood, authorities said.
Police were called about 8:15 a.m. to the Jarvis station, 1523 W. Jarvis Ave., after the boy who was hit by the train, Chicago police said, adding that the teen was pronounced dead on the scene.
Chicago Fire Department paramedics also responded to the call about the teen, who was found on the tracks. Authorities said a CTA staffer was taken to an area hospital in good condition after the teen was hit.
In a social media post, Ald. Maria Hadden (49th) said the teen hit by the train had died by suicide.
“A teenager has died by suicide this morning at the Jarvis L Station,” according to Hadden’s post. “This is a tragedy that hurts our whole community. Our condolences to their family and friends.”
As of about 11:10 a.m., normal service had resumed on the Red Line and Purple Lines, the CTA said.
An autopsy is scheduled and Area 3 detectives are investigating.
