Boy, 4, dies two days after house fire which killed 45-year-old man

A four-year-old boy has died in hospital two days after a fire ripped through a home in Wigan.

Police and the fire service rushed to the home on Warrington Road at around 2.30am on Sunday, April 14.

A 45-year-old man died from his injuries on the day, and four other people were taken to hospital.

Police have now confirmed that a young boy, aged four, died in hospital on Tuesday morning.

Detective Inspector Lee Gridley said: ‘This is a devastating incident and all of our thoughts are with the family of this young boy, who had his entire life ahead of him.

‘Together with the earlier death, this is a tragedy for the Wigan community and I know that many people will be shocked by this heartbreaking news.

‘I hope people will join us in sending their absolute best wishes to all those involved in this incident, as they begin their journey in the healing process.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue are investigating the cause of the fire, which is currently not believed to be suspicious.

The boy’s family has asked for privacy during the grieving process as they come to terms with their loss.
