Online car retailer Carvana plans to create about 100 jobs near Chicago by adding inspection and reconditioning services to its wholesale auction site in Hoffman Estates.
The company is currently hiring for about 80 roles in vehicle inspection, reconditioning and fulfillment with no degree required, as well as salaried leadership positions, according to a news release on Wednesday.
Carvana plans to add jobs as it expands existing operations at its Adesa Chicago site in Hoffman Estates. It bought Adesa, a national wholesale vehicle auction company, in 2022 for $2.2 billion.
Bringing inspection and reconditioning to Adesa Chicago “strengthens the speed and efficiency of our national network while deepening our presence in the Midwest,” Brian Boyd, Carvana’s senior vice president of inventory, said in a news release.
Adesa Chicago’s 75-acre site at 2785 Beverly Road opened in 2016. It has infrastructure for inspections and reconditioning, as well as nearly 6,000 parking spaces.
Carvana has about 750 employees in Illinois, including at auction and reconditioning centers in University Park and Hoffman Estates. It also has car “vending machines” in Oak Brook and Schaumburg where customers pick up vehicles they ordered.
Expanding services at Hoffman Estates will give customers access to more vehicles with delivery as soon as the same day, according to Carvana. Wholesale buyers such as auto dealers can access on-site inspection and reconditioning, as well as Adesa’s digital and on-site auction services.
“Carvana’s expansion in Hoffman Estates is creating exactly the kind of hands-on, good-paying jobs our workforce is looking for,” Bill McLeod, mayor of Hoffman Estates, said in a news release.
Arizona-based Carvana continues to report double-digit growth in car sales. In April, the company announced it sold 187,393 vehicles in the first quarter, which represented more than 40% year-on-year growth.
In 2025, Carvana sold more than 590,000 vehicles and earned more than $20 billion in revenue and nearly $1.9 billion in net income.
