The Chargers added another target for quarterback Justin Herbert when they said Monday they had agreed to terms with Pro Bowl tight end David Njoku, who spent the past nine seasons with the Cleveland Browns and caught 34 touchdown passes over 118 career games.
The contract is for one season and worth up to $8 million, according to reports.
Njoku, 29, had 48 receptions for 293 yards and four touchdowns in 12 games, including 11 starts, during the 2025 season. His best season was 2023, when he set career highs with 81 catches for 882 yards and six touchdowns. He has caught at least four TD passes in five straight seasons.
He was a Pro Bowl selection in 2023.
Njoku, a first-round draft pick by the Browns in 2017, joins second-year player Oronde Gadsden and veteran Charlie Kolar in the Chargers’ tight end room. Njoku and Gadsden will fill roles as pass-catchers with Kolar playing to his strengths as a blocker.
