As Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival attendees moved over the grounds of the Empire Polo Club in Indio Friday, April 10, the wind began to pick up, offering slightly cooler temperatures to kick off the first day of Weekend 1.
The National Weather Service issued an air quality alert for the area due to the dust from wind gusts that could pick up to 25 mph overnight. The advisory will last through the first two days of the festival, ending at 5 a.m. Sunday.
“The highest particle pollution levels are expected Friday night and Saturday night,” according to the NWS.
Cooler temperatures are also expected throughout the weekend compared to past years with even a slight chance of rain. Saturday’s high is 85 degrees and Sunday’s 79 degrees with lows reaching into the mid to low 50s each night and wind gusts up to 35 mph possible. Sunday also brings a 20% chance of rain after 11 a.m.
