CTA bus driver makes daring escape from knife-wielding kidnapper in Logan Square

A 57-year-old woman driving a CTA bus made a daring escape out a window when a knife-wielding man commandeered her bus early Wednesday, leading to his arrest.

No one was injured and charges were pending for the suspect, police said.

The attack unfolded about 2:40 a.m. aboard the No. 53 Pulaski bus in the 2400 block of North Pulaski Road, police and the CTA said.

A man riding the bus suddenly pulled a sharp object and demanded the bus “not stop,” police said in a statement.

The driver, a 57-year-old woman, complied but a short time later, she sneaked out a window of the bus, police said.

The suspect fled but was taken into custody soon after.

In a statement, the CTA — which is aggressively pushing for felony charges — praised police for their “swift actions” that led to the “immediate apprehension” of the suspect.

The CTA, which did not immediately clarify if anyone else was on the bus, will be working in close coordination with law enforcement to assist the investigation, they said in the statement.
