BOSTON – The scheduling craziness of the regular season’s final series keeps coming for the Cubs.
After playing a weather-forced doubleheader against the Red Sox on Friday in Boston, it was announced that incoming storms forced the final game of the regular season to Sunday afternoon in St. Petersburg, Florida, where the two teams will finish off the campaign at Tropicana Field, the home of the Rays.
That game will start at 2:05 p.m. Central, the same time as every other game in the league on the final day of the regular season.
There could still be something to play for in that one, with the Cubs a game and a half back of the Padres in the NL wild-card standings after losing the first game of Friday’s doubleheader.
Their opening-round opponent and the location of that best-of-three series is still to be determined on the season’s final weekend. The top wild-card team will host the series, which could still be played at Wrigley Field. The second-place wild-card team will travel to play the first-place team, while the third-place wild-card team will travel to play the Braves in Atlanta.
