Cubs’ game Saturday will air on Fox Chicago+ because of Bears conflict on Fox 32

When Fox Sports picked up the Cubs’ game Saturday night against the Mariners, it created a conflict for Fox 32 Chicago, which will air the Bears’ preseason game against the Bengals at the same time.

Fortunately, the local Fox affiliate has an over-the-air sister station for such occurrences.

WPWR-Channel 50, branded as Fox Chicago+, will carry the Cubs’ game, with pregame coverage beginning at 6 p.m. First pitch is scheduled for 6:15 p.m., with Aaron Goldsmith and John Smoltz on the call for a regional audience.

WFLD-Channel 32 will carry the Bears’ game, bookended by a pregame show starting at 5 p.m. and a postgame show. The Bears have priority over Fox’s “Baseball Night in America” broadcast — even with the Cubs playing — because of their agreement with Fox 32.

On most cable systems, Fox Chicago+ is on Ch. 8 in standard definition. In HD, it’s on Xfinity Ch. 184, Astound/RCN Ch. 608 and AT&T U-verse Ch. 1008. The station airs lots of pro sports, including Wolves hockey, Stars soccer and Hounds rugby, as well as college sports.

Fox’s horse-racing show “Saratoga Saturday” also will move to Fox Chicago+, starting at 5 p.m. and featuring the Alabama Stakes.
