Death of 25-year-old Avondale man ruled homicide from assault

The weekend death of a man who was assaulted in Avondale in March was ruled a homicide on Wednesday, officials said.

Alexander C. Kazanowski, 25, was found unresponsive on the ground with head injuries about 3:20 a.m. on March 24, Chicago police said.

Kazanowski was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition.

But Kazanowski, of the 4900 block of West Nelson Avenue, was pronounced dead at 3:31 p.m. Saturday, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

An autopsy Wednesday determined he died of blunt head trauma from an assault, and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner.

Area 5 detectives are investigating.
