Disneyland discounts targeting families with young kids, late-night visitors and California and Anaheim residents helped drive attendance growth this summer at Disney’s domestic theme parks.
Attendance at the Disneyland and Disney World resorts was up 3% while visitor spending increased 4% during the company’s third quarter, according to the latest earnings report released on Wednesday, Aug. 5.

The “Bluey’s Best Day Ever” kids show that debuted in March at Disneyland’s Fantasyland Theatre and the Anaheim theme park’s Kids Rule Summer marketing campaign helped drive the domestic attendance growth.

The attendance increase was also driven by ticket discounts focused on target audiences, according to Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro.
“We’ve been deploying promotional offers regularly,” D’Amaro said on the call. “What they’re really about is going after a targeted market segment to drive incremental value and ultimately make sure that we’re making the best use of our assets and all the capacity that we have available to us.”

Disneyland multi-tiered tickets cost $104 to $224 for a single park and $174 to $314 for a parkhopper depending on the time of the year.

Attendance during the third quarter was also strong at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Paris. Disney’s parks in Shanghai and Hong Kong saw weaker results.
Attendance at Disney theme parks has increased 1% to 4% for the past six financial quarters.
