State police are urging anyone who captured dashcam video or has information about the Wednesday morning fatal hit-and-run of a person changing their tire on I-80 in south suburban Lansing to contact them.
Troopers were called at about 5:28 a.m. to westbound I-80 at Torrence Avenue for a report of a someone being struck, police said. The vehicle that struck the person changing the tire left the scene.
The person who had been trying to change a tire on their vehicle when they were hit, was dead at the scene, according to Illinois State Police. Their identity, age and gender have not been released.
Two lanes of traffic remained closed as of 8 a.m., and police are asking that anyone with information or dashcam video call Illinois State Police Zone 1 at 847-294-4400 or email ISP.CrimeTips@Illinois.gov. Police said witnesses can remain anonymous.
