Driver killed in Commerce when struck by sheriff’s SUV, responding to call

One person died Thursday, Oct. 8 in a multi-vehicle collision involving a Los Angeles County sheriff’s SUV in Commerce.

While responding to a medical call for someone not breathing in Cudahy, a sheriff’s SUV collided with another car around 1:20 a.m. at Atlantic Boulevard and Sheila Street, a Sheriff’s Department spokesperson said.

A third vehicle then collided with the second car. Each of the two civilian vehicles had one adult in it.

The driver of the car struck by the deputy was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deputy involved in the collision was transported to a hospital with minor injuries. The deputy’s SUV’s airbags deployed.

The driver of the third vehicle was not injured.
