Four shot, 2 killed during attack at Auburn Gresham gas station

Police are seeking four assailants who gunned down a man and a woman and left two others were critically wounded early Thursday at an Auburn Gresham gas station.

The victims had been standing outside the station, 7600 S. Halsted St., at about 12:23 a.m. when someone opened fire, fatally hitting a 53-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. They were both pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center.

A woman, 35 and a woman, 33, were both listed in critical condition, also taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, suffering from gunshot wounds to the body, police said.

The four attackers fled south on foot through an alley.

In a statement, Cook County Crime Stoppers announced a cash reward of up to $10,000 for anonymous information that leads to an arrest in the mass shooting.

“These senseless acts of violence have left families devastated and communities searching for answers. Those responsible must be held accountable,” said Paul Rutherford, spokesperson for the nonprofit said in the statement.

“Even the smallest piece of information could be the key that helps detectives solve these cases.”

Area 2 detectives are investigating.
