Four people were taken into custody after a fight broke out Friday afternoon near the 31st Street Beach involving two off-duty Chicago police officers, including one who suffered facial injuries, police said.
A 23-year-old man, a 24-year-old woman and two 22-year-old men were on a sidewalk at about 4:05 p.m. along the 3100 block of South Lake Shore Drive when two men and two women approached them, police said.
An argument took place between the groups, and the 23-year-old man and 24-year-old woman both identified themselves as officers and attempted to de-escalate the conflict, police said.
The dispute became physical, and the two men and two women who approached the group were taken into custody, police confirmed Friday night.
The male officer suffered cuts to his face and nose and was taken to a nearby hospital in good condition, police said.
One of the 22-year-old men suffered a cut to his forehead and the other suffered blunt-force trauma to his body. Both declined medical attention.
Charges were pending. Detectives are investigating.
