The Galaxy’s busy transfer window continued with the addition of midfielder Sergi Roberto, who joins after two seasons with Como 1907 in Italy’s Serie A.
Roberto, 34, is signed through June 30, 2028, with an option for the 2028-29 season.
Before moving to Italy, Roberto had spent his career at FC Barcelona. He started in the academy at 14 and made his first-team debut at 18. Roberto will hold an international roster slot, which the Galaxy need to acquire.
“Sergi brings a combination of leadership, technical quality, tactical intelligence, and championship experience that few players have,” Galaxy general manager Will Kuntz said in a statement. “He has been a key member of some of the greatest teams of his generation and understands not only what it takes to win, but what it means to be a winning team. Sergi’s character, positional versatility, and leadership will be invaluable, and we are excited to welcome him and his family to the LA Galaxy.”
Roberto recorded more than 400 appearances for Barcelona and the Spanish national team, accumulating 25 trophies.
Cerrillo officially moves to Club America
Last weekend, Kuntz said the club was in the final stages of negotiation for a move for Edwin Cerrillo. On Saturday, the destination ended up being Liga MX’s Club America.
The transfer fee wasn’t reported, but it is believed to be more than $1 million.
“Since arriving in Los Angeles three years ago, Edwin has left an indelible mark on our club,” Kuntz said. “From the moment he joined the Galaxy, he embodied the professionalism, work ethic and team-first mentality of a Galaxy player. Edwin was a vital part of our success in the 2024 MLS Cup championship run, earning the respect of everyone in the organization through the way he carried himself every day and stood up for his teammates.”
Cerrillo, 25, is second Galaxy player to move to Mexico this season, with Mauricio Cuevas leaving in June for Santos Laguna.
Cerrillo joined the Galaxy in summer of 2023 in a trade with FC Dallas.
