Hirving Lozano is making the move from San Diego FC to the Galaxy on loan through the end of 2026.
At the end of the loan, the Galaxy will have an option to make the move permanent. Lozano will remain a Designated Player with the Galaxy for the duration of the loan.
Lozano, 31, also known as “Chucky,” signed with San Diego as a Designated Player ahead of its 2025 inaugural season. That first season had its highs and lows. Lozano made 34 appearances and scored 11 goals and added nine assists. However, toward the end of the season, things soured.
According to a report by ESPN’s Cesar Hernandez, Lozano’s troubles in San Diego started after being subbed off in a game in October, which led to a shouting incident with coach Mikey Varas. His last minutes for San Diego came Nov. 29, 2025.
According the MLS players association salary list, Lozano has the fifth-highest base salary in MLS ($6 million) and the fourth-highest guaranteed compensation figure ($9,333,333).
He hasn’t played this season despite San Diego desperately looking for a spark, as the club sits in 13th place.
The Galaxy, who are just one spot ahead of their Southern California rivals, hope Lozano can regain that form of last year to kickstart their late-season run.
“Hirving is a player whom we tried to acquire three years ago, so this feels like something of a full circle moment,” Galaxy general manager Will Kuntz said in a statement. “He is a fierce competitor with an excellent track record of performing on teams that have competed for titles in multiple leagues, including his debut season in MLS.
“As we evaluated opportunities to strengthen our roster for the stretch run of the season, it became clear that Hirving was the right player for the moment we are in as a club. We have a talented group, a strong locker room, and a clear objective over these final 15 games of the season, and we are thrilled that Hirving and his family are joining the Galaxy.”
Lozano will join the Galaxy next week and participate in a Tuesday news conference.
The Galaxy have just 15 games remaining in the regular season.
