Reddit users are predicting scrums at Starbucks restaurants this weekend when the coffee giant briefly brings back its Unicorn Frappuccino.
The Unicorn Frap created a viral sensation when it was introduced for five days in April 2017. This is the first time it’s been back, and it will only be available Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 15-16.
Unicorn foods were a big fad in 2017. There was unicorn kettle corn, cotton candy, bagels, and even sushi in soothing pastels, but the Unicorn Frap was the biggest hit and one of the most Instagrammable. Starbucks didn’t announce how many fraps it sold, but food website Mashed reported it saw a 4% increase in same-store sales compared with 2016 numbers.
The Seattle-based chain is bringing back its original 2017 recipe, according to a news release. The drink is made with milk, mango and crème syrups topped with whipped cream and glitter. It’s a magical purple color with blue drizzle on the side of the cup.

The frap will only be available in one size, grande, with limited customization, the news release said. It didn’t include a price.
According to a Reddit contributor, those customizations will be alternative milks and a no-whipped-cream option.
Contributors to Reddit’s unofficial Starbucks community are predicting that stores will have limited ingredients on hand and suggesting customers be at stores when they open. On weekends, that could be 4:30 or 5 a.m.
Starbucks has been promoting the Unicorn Frap for weeks, beginning with a pop-up at the 2026 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April.
If you miss out, Starbucks is on board with a more current trend: orange cream. It’s currently offering orange cream cold brew, orange cream matcha, and, yes, an orange cream frappuccino for about $5.50-$6.75.
