Girl, 19, who jumped red light as she led police on 88mph car chase after boozy night out swerves jail

A TEEN girl led police on a dramatic 88mph car chase after a boozy night out.

Zuzanna Kozlowska jumped a red light, weaved between cars, sped over a humpback bridge at 68mph and took a bend at 82mph.

The 19-year-old was unaware police had been tailing her in an unmarked car for five miles.

She eventually pulled over after the officer switched on his blue lights.

Although Kozlowska admitted she had been drinking before getting behind the wheel, she passed a breath test.

The teen has avoided jail and was instead handed a suspended sentence after apologising for her antics.

Kozlowska said: ”There is not really much to say except that I am really sorry. I was not in my right mind at all.

“I should never have gotten in the car at all when under the influence of alcohol. I know it’s wrong. I was not in the right state of mind at the time.”

The drama unfolded in Warrington, Cheshire, in October after Kozlowska left the pub and got in her Seat Ibiza.

She grabbed the attention of the police officer while driving erratically at a set of lights.

Nicola Parr, prosecuting, said Kozlowska undertook another motorist and accelerated away at high speed.

She then sped towards a roundabout and flew over a bridge before jumping a red light and taking a roundabout the wrong way.

Kozlowska also took a bend at 80mph before increasing her speed at a T-junction.

Ms Parr said: “The officer signalled for the driver to stop and he asked for a roadside breath sample. She blew 31 micrograms of alcohol which is below the legal limit of 35mg.

“This was a deliberate decision to ignore the rules of the road and disregard the risk of danger to others. It was a prolonged, persistent and deliberate course of dangerous driving.

“The speed was significantly in excess of the speed limit or highly inappropriate for the prevailing road or weather conditions. But it should also be said the officer following did not activate his emergency lighting until the end of his pursuit and the defendant stopped when requested to.”

Kozlowska was sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for two years and was ordered to complete 300 hours of unpaid work and 20 rehabilitation activity days.

She was also banned from driving for two years and told to pay £274 in costs and victim surcharge.

JP Peter Hunt told her: “You are one step away from a custodial sentence. You must be on your best behaviour from now on.

“Certainly, that includes not touching a motor vehicle.”
