Girl, 5, suffers life-changing injuries after being mauled by ‘XL bully’

A five-year-old girl has been rushed to hospital after being mauled by a suspected XL bully.

She suffered serious, life-changing injuries in the attack, which happened inside a house in Trafford, Greater Manchester, on Sunday afternoon.

Two people, a 28-year-old man and a woman aged 34, were arrested on suspicion of allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control. The man was also held on suspicion of child neglect.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed a referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to ‘previous police contact regarding the dog’.

The dog was later seized, according to the Manchester Evening News.

A police spokesperson said: ‘At around 3.40pm on Sunday, April 14, 2024, officers responded to reports of a dog attacking a five-year-old girl inside a property on Walnut Road, Partington.

‘The girl suffered serious life-changing injuries which were not life-threatening, while the dog was seized.

‘A man aged 28 and a woman aged 34 have been arrested on suspicion of allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control in any place.

‘The man has additionally been arrested on suspicion of child neglect.

‘The woman has since been bailed.

‘Due to previous police contact regarding the dog, a referral has been made to the IOPC.’
