U.S. Representative Chip Roy (R-TX), who is running for Texas Attorney General, complained Monday about the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, which the Senate passed 85-5 earlier in the day.
U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), who voted for the housing bill, said, “This bill will boost housing supply, bring down costs, and — for the first time ever — stop private equity from buying up single-family homes.”
Roy wrote on social media: “The Housing bill is full of big government garbage & spending. Yet the @HouseGOP is going to muscle it through with democrats tomorrow over conservative opposition.”
Roy listed “just a few of its sins” — ten to be exact — including “a $200 million affordable housing pilot program to incentivize dense subsidized ‘affordable housing’ units.”

Marc Short, chair of former Vice President Mike Pence‘s organization American Freedom, replied: “Chip is 100% right. One more economic policy victory for Elizabeth Warren. George Callas, former senior tax counsel for Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan during the Obama administration, replied with a reference to Senator Warren: “And she followed that up quickly this morning by getting Sen. Moreno to endorse a 12.4% tax rate increase on employees and the self-employed who earn more than the current wage cap.”

Yet as the vote tally indicated, there was broad agreement in the Senate on the bill, with Senate Banking Committee Chairman Tim Scott (R-SC) promising on the Senate floor that the bill was aimed at tackling America’s “housing affordability crisis” and empowering local communities to build more homes.
The Senate Banking Committee released a statement promoting the bill’s bipartisan origins saying that its passage “reflects years of work with Ranking Member Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), House Financial Services Committee Chairman French Hill (R-Ark.), and Ranking Member Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) to help more Americans achieve the dream of homeownership.”
