Thousands of runners will be hitting the streets of the capital for today’s London Marathon, which is back in its usual spring spot after the autumnal edition last time around.

The mass race, which gets underway from 10am, will once again be made up with a mix of fitness fans and charity fundraisers, who will be looking to navigate their way around the 26.2 mile stretch of Central London tarmac.

And with the Official TCS London Marathon App, those following proceedings from the sidelines will be able to keep an eye on their loved ones.

Here is everything you need to know.

How to use the London Marathon 2023 live tracker app

The app is available to download now via the Apple App Store and Google Play.

Those with the London Marathon 2022 app will need to delete it from their device and install the 2023 edition.

To track a participant with the app:

Select the main menu button

Click ‘tracking’

Search for a participant with either their name or bib number

Hit ‘add’ to include them on your tracking list

Users can track an unlimited number of runners, which also includes elite athletes and celebrities, based on the timing chip located in their bibs.

The app will give a notification each time the runner completes a 5km split, along with issuing a predicted finish time based on their pace.

If the participant is carrying a phone, they can also choose to share their actual live location by using GPS, which must be enabled in advance of the race getting underway.

However, you cannot track absolutely anybody with the GPS, as the runner will need to approve your email address in the app before they start.

The map should update every few minutes when the signal is strong, but expect drop-out when GPS signal is lost.

What other features does the app have?

Those taking part in the virtual event can also be tracked by loved ones with the app by following the same steps above.

The app also contains the Belief Booster feature, which allows family and friends to send messages of encouragement to those running.

If the message is selected by organisers, it will be displayed on LED screens at the halfway point and at the finish line on The Mall.

And new for 2023, participants can also use the app to scan their bib number to reveal an inspirational message.
