What a waste, shock and pity that Gary’s beautiful old City Methodist Church will be demolished. Even in decay, it is far more beautiful than everything sprawled around it.
One is left to wonder why a state as seemingly affluent as Indiana, which is perfectly comfortable with greasing the primrose path for the McCaskeys into the Hoosier State, couldn’t find its way to preserving an architectural beauty for that debilitated community.
From here, it looks like more of the haves taking very good care of the haves and ignoring the have-very-littles.
Shame on Indiana.

Change review process for Catholic Church abuse allegations
Like the Rev. Michael Pfleger, I would like to see Chicago’s archdiocesan process for reviewing allegations of sexual abuse of minors changed.
Currently, the Chicago Archdiocese, following the U.S. Council of Catholic Bishops, requires that its independent review board include a professional who treats those who’ve abused minors. But it does not have a parallel requirement to include a member who treats sexually abused minors.
Including a professional with an understanding of victim/survivor trauma and behavior would help in evaluating the veracity of allegations.

Judge did South Shore tenants wrong
It seems that Cook County Judge Debra Seaton has a strange way of protecting tenants from danger — by throwing them on the street. She can call it anything she wants, but the outcome is just the same.
If there wasn’t a raid at the apartment complex at 7500 S. South Shore Drive, those people would still be there.
Seaton could have offered a timetable and plans to help the former residents, but it would have made her do more work.
Judges sit so high up on their benches that they detach from humans who scrape by just to live each day. Heartless.

Trump’s fleeting name
I think people don’t need to worry about Donald Trump’s putting his name everywhere. Yes, it’s disgusting and pathetic. But it’s only a matter of time before his name will be considered anathema. After he’s gone — and he will be gone — his name will be seen as the sign that the country went insane and worshipped the devil. His name will be abolished, and buildings and institutions will get their old names back, or newer more honorable ones.
It’s only a matter of time.

Last week, the U.S. Mint started selling $1 gold-colored finished coins with Donald Trump’s face on them. The coin is made of copper, zinc and nickel. They are selling 25 coins for $61 and 100 coins for $154.50. So it is a $1 coin, but if I buy 25 it averages out to be $2.44 per coin. Seems like another grift from Trump. I will stick with the Susan B. Anthony dollar coin.
