LAS VEGAS — Rookie guard Keaton Wagler scored 23 points, and the Clippers used a dominant third quarter to pull away from the the Utah Jazz, 104-82, in an NBA Summer League game on Sunday night at the Thomas & Mack Center.
Utah held a 44-40 lead early in the third quarter, but the Clippers closed the period on a 42-12 run to take control of the game. The Clippers (1-1) led by as much as 28 points in the fourth quarter while rolling up 64 points in the second half. The Clippers outrebounded the Jazz 45-34, held a 21-8 advantage in second-chance points and outscored Utah 21-4 in points off turnovers.
Wagler, who the Clippers selected with the No. 5 pick in last month’s draft, shot 6 for 16 from the field (4 for 7 from 3-point range) with four assists, one rebound and one steal in 28 minutes. Rookie Baba Miller, a second-round pick, finished with 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting (2 for 3 from behind the arc) to go with five rebounds in 26 minutes. Rookie Nick Martinelli, another second-round pick, added 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting, six rebounds and two assists in 18 minutes off the bench.
Former Kansas standout Darryn Peterson, the No. 2 overall pick, paced the Jazz (0-2) with 20 points (on 6-of-18 shooting), five assists, two steals and two blocked shots in 26 minutes. Jonas Aidoo added nine points, 10 rebounds and three blocks, while Blake Hinson contributed 12 points, three rebounds and two assists off the bench.
The Clippers next face the Lakers (2-0) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
