While Republicans gather at President Trump’s GOP midterm convention in Dallas, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who is running for Senator John Cornyn’s seat against Democratic state Rep. James Talarico, announced today on social media that he has secured seven million eggs for the people of Texas.
Paxton wrote: “After securing 7 million eggs for the people of Texas, I am excited to announce that Texans will now have an opportunity to receive cartons of free eggs in communities across the state.”
The eggs are being distributed through 17 Texas food banks. More than 1.7 million have already been delivered, with another 5.3 million scheduled for delivery in the coming weeks.
[NOTE: The eggs are part of settlements with three national egg producers addressing an alleged conspiracy to inflate egg prices between June 2022 and March 2025. Paxton was one of 17 attorneys general who joined the federal government in the action. Paxton’s announcement is being met with criticism on social media, with comments including “Buying your vote for a carton of eggs lmao,” and “So I’m paying for other people’s eggs then? Welfare eggs?” and “Communism for blue states but just a good deed for the red states.”
