Ticket registration for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games increased by 5 million since February, reaching 12 million, making the event the most in-demand in Olympics history, officials announced on Wednesday.
The Los Angeles Organizing Committee for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games noted that the milestone coincided with the opening of its Visa Presale, which runs through Friday. The presale gives selected qualifying Visa cardholders early access to the second round of Olympic tickets sales.
“This has been an incredible summer of sports for fans across the globe, and LA28 is up next,” LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover said in a statement. “Twelve million people registered for a chance to buy tickets, a historic show of excitement, and it’s only the beginning.”
The presale works similar to the first one, which occurred in April. Fans are registered online, selected through a draw, and given designated time slots to purchase tickets. People can purchase up to 12 tickets for a range of Olympic events, as well as for the opening and closing ceremonies, subject to availability.
But this time around, presale purchases must be completed with a Visa card in recognition of the company’s partnership with LA28. Registered fans who do not receive a presale time slot will be automatically entered into the draw for the second round of global sales, known as Drop 2, which is scheduled to run Aug. 10-20.
Fans will be randomly selected for a time slot for Drop 2 and will be notified via email from Aug. 6-7.
LA28 is scheduled to launch a secure, multi-platform verified ticket resale network in 2027. Officials encourage ticket holders and others to wait for the official resale program before buying or selling resale tickets as they cannot verify tickets sold outside of this initiative.
The organizing committee said Paralympic tickets will go on sale sometime next year.
