When President Trump announced a ceasefire with Iran on Tuesday night, after threatening that “a whole civilization will die” if Iran didn’t reopen the Strait of Hormuz, former U.S. Representative Mike Rogers (R-MI) praised the Iranians for enabling the diplomatic process to move forward.
Rogers, who is running for U.S. Senate in Michigan with Trump’s endorsement, wrote: “Iranian leaders are FINALLY coming to the table to negotiate,” and added, “This is a big step in the right direction.”
[NOTE: Explaining his decision, Trump wrote that he had agreed “to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks,” and claimed that “almost all of the various points of past contention have been agreed to between the United States and Iran.”]
Former U.S. Representative Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) replied to Rogers: “Did you read this you absolute clown? Are you aware of what we agreed to? wtf”

Journalist Adam Cochran replied to Kinzinger: “Iranian sources even claiming it includes the right to enrich uranium – which would be absolutely insane and I’m hoping is just poor news reporting.”
The 10-point proposal from Iran reportedly reasserts Iran’s control of the Strait of Hormuz, maintains the country’s right to nuclear enrichment, and calls for U.S. troops to leave the region.
A domestic note: Rogers’ campaign got a big boost — $45 million — this week from the Super PAC Senate Leadership Fund (SLF), which is so confident that Rogers will win the GOP primary in August that it said “the money will support advertising for Rogers starting in early September, after the primary election is over.”
Other Republicans running in the primary include former Michigan GOP co-chair Bernadette Smith and conservative activist Genevieve Peters-Scott.
