A 45-year-old man is accused of fatally shooting a 36-year-old woman in January in Woodlawn.
Eddie Jenkins is charged with murder in the death of Kiara Jenkins, 36, who was found in an alley in the 6400 block of South Drexel Avenue on Jan. 18., Chicago police said.
Jenkins, of the 9000 block of South Loomis Street, was also charged with misdemeanor fleeing and eluding police, carrying a concealed firearm in or near a park and a traffic violation, police said.
Jenkins is due in court for a detention hearing at the Leighton Criminal Court building on the Southwest Side later Wednesday.
Their relationship was not immediately known.
Kiara Jenkins, 36, was found in an alley in the 6400 block of South Drexel Avenue about 4:30 a.m. on Jan 18, officials said. Jenkins, who lived in the Washington Heights neighborhood, suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the body and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Jenkins has five children, said Ald. Jeanette Taylor (20th) at the time. Jenkins’ home and the alley where she was shot are in Taylor’s district.
“Her children are now left without their mother,” Taylor said in a statement at the time. “No words can lessen that pain, but it is important to say clearly that her life had value and her family deserves support, compassion and justice. Our children and families deserve protection, stability and the chance to live without fear.”
