Man, caught in El Salvador, convicted of estranged wife’s 2010 killing in Pacoima

A man extradited from El Salvador in connection with his estranged wife’s stabbing death in Pacoima more than a decade ago has been convicted of murdering her.

Jurors found Napoleon Eduardo Castro, now 48, guilty on Monday, May 6, of first-degree murder for the May 1, 2010, killing of his 33-year-old estranged wife, Olga Martinez, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

The jury also found true the special circumstance allegations of torture and lying in wait, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Martinez was attacked and stabbed multiple times in the garage of her condominium building in the 11000 block of Glenoaks Boulevard.

Authorities had named Castro as the suspect in the killing shortly after the crime, and state and federal warrants were subsequently issued for his arrest. The wanted poster distributed by the FBI noted that he had the name “OLGA” tattooed on his chest.

Castro was taken into custody by members of the FBI’s Fugitive Task Force, according to the FBI, which announced in February 2019 after his arrest that a reward had been paid in connection with the investigation. He was turned over to Los Angeles police in February 2019.

Jurors deadlocked in his first trial.

Castro is facing life in prison without the possibility of parole, with sentencing set for June 10 in a San Fernando courtroom, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
