Man charged with murdering girlfriend on West Side

A 62-year-old woman walked into a West Side police station Friday to report that her boyfriend had grabbed her by the hair and “headbutted” her. The next day, she was found dead, according to police.

Now the boyfriend, Connor G. Williams, has been charged with murder after allegedly fatally assaulting Keri Chappell, 62, who was found unresponsive in the 3500 bock West Flournoy Street Saturday at 12:06 a.m., police said.

Williams, 34 and of the 3500 block of West Flournoy Street, is expected to appear for a detention hearing Monday at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse.

An autopsy Sunday determined Chappell, who also lived in the same block, died of multiple injuries from an assault, according to the medical examiner’s office, which ruled her death a homicide.

According to a police report, shortly after noon on Friday, Chappell went into the Harrison District police station on the city’s West Side to make a police report for domestic battery. In the report, she alleged Williams “grabbed her by the hair causing chunks of her hair to be pulled from her scalp,” according to the report. She also said Williams had headbutted her in the face, causing an abrasion to her lip, the report said.

Williams was arrested Saturday at 3:12 a.m. at the Flournoy address.

Williams had two prior domestic battery convictions in two other counties, court records show.

Area 4 detectives are investigating.
