A construction worker was killed after falling off a building at Northwestern University on Thursday, according to Evanston police.
The man, 57, had been operating equipment on the roof of what was once the school’s James L. Allen Center, 2169 Campus Drive in Evanston, before he fell four stories to the ground around 3:26 p.m., police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said there were “no signs of criminal activity” and that the university and contractor the man worked for were cooperating with an ongoing investigation.
Northwestern confirmed the accident site is where a new building is being constructed for NU’s Kellogg School of Management. The new building will replace the James L. Allen Center and double its seating capacity. Construction started last May and the building is expected to open in fall 2027, according to university releases about the project.
“Our thoughts are with those involved,” a spokesperson said in a statement.
