The wreck about 9:05 a.m. on westbound Interstate 580 north of Livermore Avenue blocked the express lane and four of five regular lanes of traffic, the CHP said. Only the far right lane was open.

The CHP issued a Sig Alert for severe traffic at 9:19 a.m. and had no estimate for when the rest of the freeway lanes would open. At 10:30 a.m., authorities still were waiting for the Alameda County Coroner’s Office to arrive on the scene.

Authorities did not immediately release any details on how the crash happened. A CHP log confirmed by the agency said initial reports indicated that one car involved in the fatal crash was a Mercedes and that one big rig, possibly two, also were involved.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
