North Hollywood man accused of killing his girlfriend’s rabbit, throwing it from 2nd story

Los Angeles County prosecutors charged a North Hollywood man with stomping on and killing his girlfriend’s two-month-old rabbit and flinging it from their second-story apartment.

During his arraignment on Monday, April 6, Nikolas Hart, 25, pleaded not guilty to one felony count of animal cruelty as well as injury to his live-in girlfriend, attempting to prevent or dissuade a victim or witness and three counts of disobeying a court order not to contact the victim, all misdemeanors, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Around 9 p.m. on Feb. 11, prosecutors allege, Hart stomped on his girlfriend’s rabbit Momo, put Momo in a trash bag and threw the bag from their second-story apartment in a fit of anger. Momo died from blunt force trauma to the chest, abdomen and face, the District Attorney’s Office said.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 16 in the Van Nuys Courthouse. Hart’s bail was set at $150,000.

“This defendant is accused of assaulting his girlfriend on prior occasions, then later killing a defenseless animal in a violent outburst,” Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said in a news release. “That kind of criminal behavior will land you in prison.”

If convicted as charged, Hart faces up to eight years.

In the meantime, Hochman said, the judge issued a protective order prohibiting Hart from owning or having any animals in his care.
