Centennial Park Aquatic Center in southwest suburban Orland Park has temporarily closed after two people developed E. coli infections linked to the facility.
Initial water sample tests came back “normal” but the two infections prompted a “precautionary closure” while more testing is done, according to Orland Park Recreation and Parks, which runs the center.
The aquatic center remained closed Sunday while village staff conducted more tests at the facility, the department said in a social media post Saturday evening. The center will stay closed until the site is cleared to reopen.
E. coli is often found in recreational waters. The bacteria can cause mild to severe illness. Symptoms include diarrhea, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting and fever.
