A rapist has been jailed for ten years after his victim helped track him down with a description of his ‘distinctive’ face tattoo and ear piercings.

Luke Kyberd, 29, grabbed the woman as she walked home through a park in Leamington Spa at 9pm on January 3.

He attempted to choke her before demanding her phone, punching her and raping her.

The woman escaped and ran to a nearby restaurant where she raised the alarm.

An officer who heard her description over police radio recognised it as Kybard, who was known to the force for a series of prior convictions including viciously beating a disabled teenager.

A squad then swooped in on Kybard’s home and found him still there two hours after the attack.

Kybard pleaded guilty to rape, attempted rape, sexual assault, robbery and intentional strangulation, a relatively new offence created to hand out tougher punishment for non-fatal choking incidents.

Following his sentencing on Thursday, Detective Constable Amy Hall of Warwickshire Police said: ‘The victim must have been terrified of this evil man and she showed great bravery in quickly raising the alarm.

‘Following such a traumatic ordeal it is incredible she was able to provide us with such a detailed description of her attacker that meant Kyberd was quickly identified and arrested.’

Detective Sergeant Nic Norris added: ‘The courage shown by the victim has meant we have taken an extremely dangerous offender off the street, and I would like to thank her for supporting this investigation.

‘I hope she can take some comfort from the conviction.’
