A pedestrian standing next to their apparently disabled vehicle was fatally struck in a hit and run that temporarily shut down local lanes of the Dan Ryan Expressway early Friday on the South Side.
State troopers responded to the local lanes near 47th Street around 2:40 a.m. where a person standing next to their stopped vehicle on the left shoulder was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene, Illinois state police said.
The person was taken to an area hospital where they died, state police said.
Local inbound lanes of I-94 were shut down and traffic was diverted at 55th Street, officials said. Lanes reopened around 5:35 a.m.
