Chicago police are warning residents about several electric scooter thefts reported this summer in Lake View East, Uptown, Roscoe Village and Lincoln Square.
In the seven incidents since June, someone carved out the ignition to bypass the scooters’ key-start function, police said.
The reported thefts include the following locations:
- June 9 at 1 p.m. in the 700 block of West Brompton Avenue
- June 21 at noon in the 4100 block of North Sheridan Road
- June 30 at 6:30 p.m. in the 3500 block of North Lake Shore Drive
- July 8 at2 p.m. in the 600 block of West Briar Place
- July 21 at 3 p.m. in the 1900 block of West Roscoe Street
- Aug. 18 at 6 p.m. in the 4600 block of North Western Avenue
- Aug. 22 around 7 p.m. in the 4700 block of North Western Avenue
The suspect is described as a man in his 50s wearing a white shirt, blue shorts, and a fanny pack, according to police.
