Ram is recalling more than 265,000 vehicles over a steering defect

More than 265,000 Ram cargo vans have been recalled over a defect with the vehicles’ steering system.

At issue are the electric power steering systems in ProMaster vans from model years 2022-26. Federal regulators say water can seep into the steering systems, damaging the vehicles’ electrical wiring and potentially causing permanent loss of power steering assist.

Damage to the steering system can increase the risk of a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Stellantis NV, the maker of the vans, is aware of one non-injury accident related to the defect, Stellantis spokesperson Frank Matyok said in an emailed statement.

To fix the issue, Stellantis directed owners to have the wiring harness inspected and replaced as needed. The repairs will be paid for by Stellantis.

“Affected customers will be advised when they may schedule service,” Matyok said. “Customers with additional questions or concerns are encouraged to call 1-800-853-1403.”

Another 20,000 ProMasters in Canada and more than 3,000 in Mexico also will be recalled, Matyok said.

Federal regulators began reviewing the Ram vans in September 2025 after receiving complaints about the steering systems.
