The Last King World Tour, produced by Don Omar (whose name is William Omar Landrón) and promoted in the U.S. by Cardenas Marketing Network (CMN), comes twenty years after the release of his sophomore album, “King of Kings.”

At a time when reggaeton and Música urbana (Latin urban), an umbrella category for contemporary Spanish- and Portuguese-language music, were vying for crossover appeal on U.S. airwaves, Don Omar’s 2006 album was breaking ground by featuring collaborations with both Latin and mainstream artists.

According to Billboard, “King of Kings” reached No. 1 on the Top Latin Albums chart, spent 11 weeks at the top, and reached No. 7 on the Billboard 200 (for the week dated June 6, 2006), considered a massive achievement in the pre-streaming era. The album would spend a total of 30 weeks on the chart.

The Last King World Tour is the next chapter following Don Omar’s 2024 Back to Reggaetón Tour, which was his first tour in over a decade. It sold more than 335,000 tickets in 2024 alone, earning more than $32.9 million across 39 shows and ending the year ranked 10th on Billboard’s list of top Latin tours.

His first album, “The Last Don,” was ranked number 50 on Rolling Stone’s 100 Best Debut Albums of All Time, for its contribution to reggaeton, which helped pave the way for many contemporary reggaeton stars such as Bad Bunny, Karol G, Arcángel, and J Balvin.

Don Omar’s musical achievements have been widely recognized by the music industry, including winning multiple Billboard Latin Music Awards, Premio Lo Nuestro Awards, Premios Juventud honors, and a Latin Grammy. In 2024, Premio Lo Nuestro honored Don Omar with the prestigious Global Icon Award, recognizing his lasting influence on reggaeton and pivotal role in bringing reggaeton to mainstream audiences worldwide.
