After President Trump announced that the U.S. will “blow up the entire country” of Iran if no peace deal is reached by Tuesday, retired U.S. Army General Barry McCaffrey told MSNOW, “The president sounds a little bit unhinged. Jumping from one subject to another. It’s somewhat of a babble factor. Anger. Attacking in the media in the room, attacking former presidents.”
More than one X user replied to McCaffrey, “A little unhinged?!”
Gen. Barry McCaffrey: The president sounds a little bit unhinged. Jumping from one subject to another. Anger. Attacking in the media, attacking former presidents. I’ve been in thousands of meetings in my life, I’ve never heard a group of people who are so apple-cursing, groveling… pic.twitter.com/BjTmEn7yPX

McCaffrey, who served as Deputy United States Representative to NATO and Director of Strategic Plans and Policy, Joint Chiefs of Staff, added: “I’ve been in thousands of meetings in my life — business, military, politicians, not for profit — I’ve never heard a group of people who are so apple-kissing, groveling in their veneration of the leader except possibly Kim Jong-un. It’s really embarrassing as a professional soldier for me to say that.”
[NOTE: North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said recently that Trump’s attacks on Iran are “state-sponsored acts of terrorism and aggression” and told his parliament that “the present situation clearly proves our nuclear possession is irreversible.”]
McCaffrey is not the only highly decorated retired soldier to criticize Trump and his initiation of the war.
Ret. Lt. General Mark Hertling also criticized Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for saying “Soldiers are fighting for Jesus.”
Hertling said, “That just chills me to the bone, especially when you have soldiers and all military personnel who are of other faiths and it’s on Passover weekend. It doesn’t make sense to me and it’s just despicable.”
Retired Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling is not mincing words. The former Commanding General of US Army Europe says these generals were purged because they stood up against Pete Hegseth’s push to turn the US military into a Christian nationalist crusade.
