Sierra Canyon baseball hires David Armendariz as successor to Tom Meusborn

Sierra Canyon didn’t need to look far to find a replacement for Tom Meusborn as its baseball coach.

David Armendariz was promoted Monday to head coach after three years as the lead assistant to Meusborn, who announced last week that he was stepping down.

Armendariz is an assistant athletic director at Sierra Canyon and served as an assistant coach and hitting coordinator at Harvard-Westlake for six years prior to his time at Sierra Canyon.

Along with coaching and administration duties, Armendariz served as the head of Nike’s baseball camps, which are regularly held at M.J. Siegel Field during the summer.

Sierra Canyon was 56-31-2 the past three seasons and competed in CIF Southern Section Division 1 with nationally ranked powerhouses St. John Bosco, Notre Dame, Harvard-Westlake, Norco, Orange Lutheran and Corona Centennial.
